Tigers Punch Ticket to Finals During Day Two of SEC Champs

Senior Drew Rogers and Suzy Lecoutre will advance to the mile finals at the SEC Indoor Championship finals on Saturday

The Missouri Tigers closed out day two of the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a bang, sending two athletes to the mile finals and securing multiple top-10 finishes on Friday, Feb. 27.

Women’s Weight Throw

The Tigers kicked off the day in the weight throw. Petra Gombas led the way with a solid 19.01m toss to take 12th overall. Delilah Pippen who placed 18th had a big moment and hit a personal best of 17.64m. Ames Burton added to the effort with a 16.91m throw to place 21st, which kept the momentum rolling for Mizzou.

Men’s Weight Throw

On the men’s side, Sam Innes came up huge with a fourth-place finish, launching a massive 22.22m throw. His result was a top-10 Mizzou program record. Garik Pozecki was not far behind, and took ninth with a strong 21.12m mark. Clayton Kamp also delivered with a season-best 18.65m to finish 17th. 

Women’s Mile

What a race from Suzy Lecoutre. She led the Mizzou squad with an impressive 4:39.85 for seventh place and a spot in the mile finals. Morgan Yeomans crossed in 4:45.08 to take 18th, and Allison Newman rounded things out with a 4:54.97 finish. Strong efforts all around from the distance crew.

Men’s Mile

The men brought the heat in the mile prelims. Senior Drew Rogers showed out with a third-place finish in 4:02.11 with a place in the finals on Saturday. Carter Spradling wasn’t far off, placing 11th in 4:04.44, while Finnian Russell clocked 4:06.37 to take 16th. Big-time racing from the Tigers as they continue to compete at a high level.

Men’s 60m

Speed was on display as senior Robert Hines claimed a season-best 6.77 in the 60m dash, and finished 24th overall. 

Women’s High Jump

Marlena Tresnjo cleared 1.71m to finish her high jump event in 15th place overall.

“I think that as long as she is is showing up, and not rattled or anything like that, she’s gonna jump really, really well, so she’s already in a really good space, and I’m excited for her,” assistant jumps coach TJ Harris said before the SEC Indoor Championships.

Men & Women’s 800m

Mizzou athlete Brianna Lee raced during the 800m and finished with a time of 2:13.77 minutes. For the men, River Hardman placed 23rd with a time of 1:53.73 and Andrew Simard claimed 24th at 1:55.14 minutes. 

Unfortunately, Dillon Leacock had a false start in the 60m Hurdles. 

Saturday’s Action

With the last day of the SEC Indoor Championships near, the women will compete in the 3000m, with runners such as Suzy Lecoutre, Kobi Walker and Mirriam Chepkirui in the runnings. For the men’s 3000m, Ryder James, Finnian Russell, Elijah Limo, Joshua Allison, Ethan Hogan, Tyler Freiner and Drew Rogers will race. Chase Crawford will compete in the shot put event for the Tigers.
