As Seahawks mull cornerback room, Rams on verge of acquiring All-Pro corner

A former Huskies star who’s been a star with the Chiefs could be coming to the Seahawks’ biggest NFC West rival.

The Seattle Seahawks have some important decisions to make at the cornerback position regarding free agents Josh Jobe and Riq Woolen. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams look to be getting major cornerback help themselves.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Kansas City Chiefs are close to a deal that would send their All-Pro and Washington Huskies alum Trent McDuffie to the Rams, who would give up their native first-round pick in the process.

The Rams have two first-round picks in next month’s draft thanks to last year’s draft day deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta’s late surge to just narrowly miss the playoffs instead of badly miss means the Rams’ other first-rounder is at No. 13 overall.

McDuffie is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which otherwise is his $13.632 million fifth-year option. As Schefter notes, McDuffie would be a trade-and-extend move for the Rams. Of course, the Rams are familiar with major cornerback trades, as evidenced by their previous deals for Marcus Peters (also of the Chiefs!) and Jalen Ramsey.

After winning the Super Bowl as a rookie, McDuffie followed that up with an All-Pro selection as a slot corner in 2023, followed by a second-team All-Pro selection in 2024 as an outside corner. He’s not been as good on the outside as he’s been in the slot, but he’s still a very good player and would be an instant upgrade over literally everybody the Rams have at the position.

Let the offseason fun begin! You didn’t think the team that lost the NFC Championship to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seahawks would sit idly by, did you?
