Liam Rosenior has been speaking to TNT Sports ahead of kick off in Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa, and there was only one subject they wanted to talk about – the manager’s decision to drop Robert Sanchez and bring in Filip Jorgensen to replace him.

“He’s played very good in training. The way I work with goalkeepers, I don’t have an outright number one. I want competition in every area. He’s been waiting very patiently for his chance. Now I’ve given it to him this evening,” the Chelsea boss explained.

I mean, Liam… there’s an FA Cup game on Friday. If this is purely a case of giving your other goalkeeper a chance, that was the time to do it.

You may not believe in having an established number one, but surely you’ve got to believe in one goalkeeper being better than another at any one time. Despite his poor game on Sunday, Sanchez is Rosenior’s best goalkeeper, and to change that for such a crucial game feels like an unnecessary risk.

To say nothing of what it does for Sanchez’s confidence long term, knowing he’s one mistake away from a dropping.
