Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer could be close to ending his tenure at the club. Recurring injuries and a visible degradation in performances has led to questions about the next chapter of the two-time Champions League winner.

According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia), there are doubts within the club whether Neuer will continue his career beyond this summer. The 39-year-old has yet to communicate to Bayern bosses if he wants to extend his contract. From the captain’s entourage, it is said that he has not made a decision yet. The chances are currently 50-50. From Bayern’s perspective, it’s up to Neuer himself to decide. If he wants to continue, then the extension is just a formality. A decision could be made later this month.

With Jonas Urbig already having proved himself to be the successor to Neuer, the impact of a potential departure for the former Schalke goalkeeper will be somewhat curtailed. At this point, it’s now about who becomes Urbig’s backup.
