Sophie Cunningham is under fire!
On the same day that she was hit by a sex toy during a game, the outspoken Indiana Fever star revealed on her podcast Show Me Something that she has been fined for controversial comments she made during her premiere episode.
"The WNBA fined me," Cunningham, 28, said while laughing on Tuesday, Aug. 5. "Dude, they fined me $1,500. I was like what? This is just the beginning! You’re kidding!"
She added about her criticism of officials: "What happens is [the WNBA] emails our GM and she pulls me aside … and she just smiled and goes 'Hey, they’re gonna fine you again.' I even told them, I credited them that their job was hard. I did say that and I said that I would not be good at it. I did say that, like, look at the whole picture? What are we doing?"
Cunningham’s take came in the same episode in which she showed her support for teammate Caitlin Clark.
"It literally pisses me off when people are like, 'She's not the face of the league,' " she said. "We have a lot of badasses in our league, and hell yeah, I'm all for that, but when people try to argue that she's not the face of our league or that our league would be where we're at without her, you're dumb as s---. You're literally dumb as f---."

Just two weeks ago, she was fined $500 over a TikTok that she directed at officials.

The video saw Cunningham in a hotel room singing along to a verse from Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “Manchild,” which includes the lyrics: “Stupid, or is it slow? Maybe it’s: useless.” The Fever shooting guard wrote the caption, “@ some refs” over the video.
Elsewhere this summer, the Missouri native also sparked controversy after she questioned the league’s decision to expand to new cities.
Last month, when she was asked about the league’s announcement that it would add the two teams in 2028 and 2029 — as well as one in Philadelphia in 2030 — Cunningham was frank in her assessment.
"You want to listen to your players, too. Like where do they want to play?" Cunningham told reporters on Tuesday, July 1. "Where are they going to get excited to play and draw fans?... I don’t know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or [Cleveland]."
