While fans should certainly be keeping an eye on the Canadiens' newcomers, they also have players from last season's roster who need to be watched closely. This undoubtedly includes forward Alex Newhook, as the 24-year-old is preparing for a big year in 2025-26.
Newhook had a bit of a down year offensively for the Canadiens this past season, recording 15 goals, 26 points, and a minus-11 rating in 82 games. This was after Newhook scored 15 goals and set a new career high with 34 points in only 55 games during the 2023-24 season. With this, Newhook struggled to replicate his strong 2023-24 play this past season and will be looking to change that this upcoming campaign.
Newhook could also end up being an important forward on the Canadiens' roster this season, too, as there certainly is a chance that he could start the year as their second-line center. This is especially so if Kirby Dach ends up not being ready for the team's season opener.
Nevertheless, all eyes should be on Newhook next season. The possibility of the 2019 first-round pick having a true breakout season is still there, and it will be fascinating to see if he can do just that for the Habs in 2025-26 from here.
