Former Minnesota Golden Gophers cornerback Justin Walley, a third-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts this past April, has seen his rookie season come to an end before it even got started. On Thursday night, the Colts announced that the former Golden Gopher suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice on Tuesday between the Colts and Ravens.
Before his injury, Walley was pushing to be a starter for the Colts this upcoming season.
“Huge blow,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen said about the injury. “I think he was having a hell of a camp. His man coverage skills were great, he was making a ton of plays in practice too before it happened.”
During a four-year career with the Golden Gophers, Walley played in 49 games, recording 155 career tackles, including four tackles for loss and one sack. He also had 34 career pass deflections and seven interceptions.
The 2024 season was a strong one for the Mississippi native as he played and started in 10 games for the Gophers, recording 42 tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack. He posted a career-high 12 pass breakups throughout the season while nabbing a pair of interceptions. He would earn All-Big Ten Second Team honors from the Big Ten coaches for his performance and honorable mention from the media.
