Could Skip be on to something here?
Caitlin Clark Out for the Season? Skip Bayless Floats WNBA Conspiracy Theory originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever will still be without Caitlin Clark when they return to action on Saturday in a rivalry matchup against the Chicago Sky. That will be the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year’s 10th consecutive game on the shelf as she continues to deal with a lingering groin injury.
The bad news for Indiana is that they lost both Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson, too, after it was announced on Friday that both guards suffered season-ending injuries in Thursday’s blowout loss to the Phoenix Mercury.
With all three out of the picture, the Fever have no healthy true point guard for Saturday’s matchup against Chicago.
Skip Bayless Floats WNBA Conspiracy Theory
Amid the injury crisis in Indiana, renowned sportscaster Skip Bayless turned his attention to Clark’s situation in a recent episode of his show. The 73-year-old sports personality believes that the WNBA may be withholding information on Clark’s injury.
“Is it possible that this time, she tore her groin so badly that she’s already been privately ruled out for the rest of the season, yet the league wants to keep the media and the fans in the dark about this so that people keep tuning in, figuring, ‘Oh, she'll be back soon,’” Bayless suggested. “Is that what’s going on? Maybe.”

Clark currently has no timetable for her return, and the Fever have given no indication that the former Iowa star is close to returning. The last time she took the court was on July 15 against the Connecticut Sun, and Bayless believes there’s a possibility that it was Clark’s last appearance of the season.
Clark’s Second WNBA Season Marred by Injury
Clark is currently dealing with a right groin issue, which has now cost her nine games on the shelf. Below is a summary of the four injuries she’s suffered in 2025, all of which are classified as soft tissue injuries:
- Left quad on May 3 (preseason game)
- Left quad on May 28 (missed five games)
- Left groin on June 26 (missed four regular-season games and the Commissioner’s Cup final)
- Right groin on July 16 (missed nine games and counting)
This is an undoubtedly concerning list of injuries, which has forced Clark to sit out a total of 18 out of Indiana’s 31 regular-season games thus far.
The Fever have been very cautious with Clark’s current groin injury, and they appear to be in no rush to bring her back. Whether or not she gets shut down for the rest of the season, however, is an altogether different matter.
