This Los Angeles Lakers trade proposal would get one of the best bench scorers in the league back in purple and gold.
Lakers trade idea lands team their former star 6th man from long-time rival team originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Los Angeles Lakers' starting lineup is going to be formidable next season. Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James should be able to create a top-5 NBA offense on their own. What the Lakers may be lacking next season, however, is production off the bench.
Right now, the best Lakers bench pieces are their new additions, Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia. Neither of those two even averaged double-digit scoring last season. That’s why so many Lakers trade rumors have linked them to bench scorers.
SB Nation’s Jacob Rude thought of a way for the Lakers to pick up a ton of bench scoring.
“Kings get: Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, lottery protected 2031 first round pick
Lakers get: Monk…
Sacramento bizarrely spent a portion of the offseason trying to trade away Monk for all sorts of downgrades or to create space to sign more guards, to no success. Truly, it’s hard to fathom what the Kings are doing.
It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for the Lakers to try to swoop in and nab Monk, then. Perhaps you could convince Sacramento to take Dalton Knecht instead of a first, which makes the deal feel even better for the Lakers.”
If the Lakers were willing to put a first-round pick to land Monk, this Lakers-Malik Monk trade could actually happen. It’s unclear if the Kings would accept the trade, given that the pick is lottery-protected. That being said, if the Lakers extend Luka to a massive deal once again, he probably will still be keeping them out of the lottery in 2031.

Monk would be a great addition for the Lakers. His playmaking and scoring off the bench would potentially solve one of the Lakers' biggest weaknesses. The question is whether they are willing to get rid of that precious 2031 first in order to make this Lakers-Malik Monk trade happen.
