Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti voiced his support of IU safety Louis Moore on Monday as he is in the middle of an NCAA lawsuit.
As Indiana quickly approaches week one of the season, there remains uncertainty around its defensive backfield and the availability of Louis Moore.
Moore, IU’s 24-year-old safety, is dealing with a recent pending lawsuit with the NCAA regarding his eligibility. According to a report from ESPN’s Heather Dinich, which was confirmed by TheHoosier.com, Moore is arguing that his time at Navarro Junior College shouldn’t count against his division one eligibility. He also cited potential losses ‘around $400k in NIL deals’ in his lawsuit.
Part of Moore’s lawsuit also mentions Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia. Pavia enrolled in junior college for his first collegiate season in 2020. Moore enrolled at Navarro in 2019, a season in which he redshirted. Up to this point, Moore has been in college for one more season than Pavia, but played the same amount of years due to his redshirt. Moore also appeared in college during the Covid season, like Pavia. He has only played three season at the division one level.
“I think the issue with Louis, and a lot of other guys across the country right now, is the Vanderbilt quarterback (Diego Pavia) is still within his five-year clock, whereas there’s a group of guys at five and a half years,” Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said on Monday. “I do support Louis, but it’s a legal matter. That’s all I can say about it.”
Moore has been practicing with Indiana ever since he enrolled in the spring and has been a participant in the fall.
Moore transferred to Indiana from Ole Miss where he appeared in 11 games and totaled 36 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and one pass deflection. Before Ole Miss, Moore played two seasons at Indiana from 2022-23. He played 24 games and had 91 tackles, 3 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles.
Indiana’s season opener is August 30 against Old Dominion.
