Tyler Marsh keeps it real.
Sky Coach Gets Candid on Team’s Problems in Blowout Loss to Caitlin Clark-Less Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever did not get much resistance from the Chicago Sky in Saturday’s rivalry matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Fever, who were without Caitlin Clark for a 10th straight contest due to a groin injury, still came out to dominate the Sky, en route to a convincing 92-70 win.
The Fever are now 4-0 against the Sky this season, which is a testament to how one-sided this rivalry has been this year.
Sky head coach Tyler Marsh spoke to reporters after the game to discuss his team’s performance in the loss. The first-year shot caller highlighted his team's issues on the evening.
"We all watched a little bit too much," Marsh said, via Sky beat reporter Karli Bell.
As Marsh said, there was a little too much ball-watching from Chicago in this one as they battled a shorthanded Fever side that did not have a healthy true point guard in this one after season-ending injuries to Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald.
Marsh went on to call out his team’s shortcomings in what was their ninth loss in the last 10 games.
"We don't really have a team that's able to pressure the ball on the perimeter like that, he said. “We want to be more containment. We weren't able to turn them over much today."
The Sky allowed Indiana to shoot 47.1% overall and 39.3% from beyond the arc as the Fever hit 11 triples in Saturday’s win. Lexie Hull, who came into this game shooting 1-of-18 from distance in her last five games, broke out of her slump against the Sky, knocking down 4-of-6 from deep.
It is worth noting that the Sky also did not have Angel Reese in this game due to a back injury, along with Courtney Vandersloot, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear back in June. However, Marsh has refused to use this as an excuse for Saturday’s deflating loss.
The Sky get the chance to make amends on Wednesday in a road game against the league-worst Connecticut Sun.
