This is an exciting time.
Seattle Mariners have the 3rd-best World Series win chance in MLB originally appeared on The Sporting News
It's an exciting time in Seattle.
The Mariners are on fire, loaded up with new trade deadline acquisitions and strongly performing stalwarts, ready to make a run at all the possibilities in the home stretch of the MLB season.
And if you want to be an extra excited Mariners fan, there's this:
Fangraphs ranks Seattle with the third-highest percentage chance to win the World Series.
As of August 11, the Mariners were 9.9% chance to win the whole thing, the best rate in the American League.
Fangraphs puts the Dodgers at 19.9%, the Phillies at 12.7% and then the Mariners.
The AL is then represented by the Blue Jays (9.2%), Tigers (7.3%) and Yankees (7.2%).

Part of the reason for the breakdown is that the AL is generally regarded as much more wide open than the NL.
Seattle then has a lot going for it. It's put together such an impressive run since the deadline, homering lots and stealing lots of bases without being caught. It's a combination that the analytics can't help but appreciate.
Then you can couple that with an effective pitching rotation that's also elite at not walking opposing hitters.
Seattle's bullpen isn't as deep as the Mariners maybe would like, but other than that, this is a team built to last deep into October.
And that's incredibly exciting.

The Mariners, of course, have never won a World Series. They've never even won the American League pennant.
In this wide open season, with Cal Raleigh making history and Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor arriving and Julio Rodriguez and Randy Arozarena heating up and all the pitchers doing their thing, there's a real chance.
Fangraphs sets it at 1-in-10 right now. Mariners fans will gladly take those odds.
