“It just always felt like home,” Johnson said. “Ever since I stepped foot on campus. I saw everything they had to offer. Nothing came close.

“I researched a lot of colleges. Nothing came close to A&M.”

The Rivals Industry tabs Johnson as the nation’s No. 20 offensive tackle and No. 205 prospect overall. He chose to play for Texas A&M over the likes of Texas, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma.

Johnson detailed why he chose the Aggies.

“No. 1 the strength coach. I love the strength coach. He’s been to LSU, he’s been everywhere. He’s been at A&M the last four years. Every time I hear something about the strength coach its amazing.

“No. 2 its the coaches. The whole Texas A&M staff they all feel like family.”

Johnson loves the trajectory of the program under Mike Elko. Future position coach Adam Cushing was the lead recruiter.,

“From what I’ve seen they refuse to settle for less,” Johnson said of the championship aspirations. “The staff is amazing. The players are amazing. I’m sure they’ll get it going soon.”

Johnson said “it was right” and “no point in me waiting” regarding his decision.

“How they treated my family, they treated my family amazing.”
