5 takeaways from Day 14 of Patriots training camp: Offense, kickers struggle at practice

The New England Patriots practiced on Monday before they leave for joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings.

FOXBORO — The New England Patriots took the field on Monday for one final practice before leaving for Minnesota to take part in joint practices with the Vikings and then compete in their second preseason game.

Let's get into some observations from practice:

Jun 9, 2025; Foxborough, MA, USA; New England Patriots place kickers Andres Borregales, left, and John Parker Romo wait for the start of a drill during minicamp at Gillette Stadium in June.

A rough day for the kickers

Veteran John Parker Romo and rookie Andy Borregales have been battling it out all summer as they compete for a roster spot. Both have been at the top of their games, with Romo going 32-for-33 through 13 days of camp, while Borregales has gone 30-for-34 in field goals.

However, on Monday, both struggled in the four attempts they took from 30- to 50-plus yards. Borregales went 2-of-4, while Romo went 1-of-4.

Lack of running back depth

The New England Patriots' running back depth has taken a hit throughout the last few days. UDFA Lan Larison was placed on injured reserve, and according to ESPN's Mike Reiss, he is scheduled to have foot surgery.

On Monday, Rhamondre Stevenson and Deneric Prince were both absent from practice, and Terrell Jennings left early with a trainer, so TreVeyon Henderson, Antonio Gibson, and JaMycal Hasty served as the only three running backs on the field.

Patriots wide receiver Javon Baker makes a catch during training camp at Gillette Stadium in July. On Monday, he made the play of the day with another spectacular catch in practice.

Play of the day

This one goes to Javon Baker, who has had a solid training camp. During a team period while he was out with the second-team offense, Joshua Dobbs targeted the second-year receiver, and despite the ball being a little underthrown, Baker was able to jump and snag the ball over the defender.

Kyle Dugger remains with the second team

On Sunday, Kyle Dugger was working with the second team, while rookie Craig Woodson and Jaylinn Hawkins spent time alongside Jabrill Peppers during first-team reps. That continued on Monday as Woodson continued to take reps above him.
