The New York Liberty took on the Minnesota Lynx in their second meeting of the 2025 WNBA season on Sunday at Barclays Center.

It was a rematch of the 2024 WNBA Finals, when Sabrina Ionescu wrote her name into New York basketball history with a game-winning 3-pointer in Game 3.

Ionescu is averaging 19.9 points, 5 rebounds and 5.5 assists this season, while making 2.3 threes per game. She was also named an All-Star starter and won her second 3-Point Contest title in July.

The 27-year-old may be best known for her shooting, but it was her rebounding that made history on Sunday.

Sabrina Ionescu Makes History Against Lynx

According to New York Liberty public relations, Ionescu's first two boards against the Lynx took her past Kiah Stokes to become New York’s fourth all-time leader in rebounds with 954.

Even more impressive, Ionescu is the fastest guard in WNBA history to reach this mark, doing so in 173 games. It is only a matter of time before she becomes the fastest guard to pass the major milestone of 1,000 career rebounds.

There are three players still above her in the Liberty record books.

  • Tina Charles — 1,723 rebounds
  • Tari Phillips — 1,077 rebounds
  • Vickie Johnson — 1,053 rebounds

Other Records Held by Sabrina Ionescu

Ionescu's balanced skill set of scoring, rebounding and playmaking has helped her reach other milestones.

Ionescu has the most games of at least 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in WNBA history, according to the same team source. She recorded her sixth such game on July 8 against the Las Vegas Aces.

She also has the second-most triple-doubles in WNBA history with four. Ionescu is one ahead of Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and retired player Candace Parker, who have three apiece. Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas has the most with 15.

The Lynx won the contest 83-71 to improve their WNBA-best record to 27-5.
