Arch Manning caught some strays.
Arch Manning Jokes Pouring In After Quinn Ewers’ Performance on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning caught some strays following Quinn Ewers' NFL preseason debut with the Miami Dolphins.
Ewers had a rather forgettable game for Miami against the Chicago Bears, although the game ended up a draw 24-24. The former Longhorns QB failed to score a touchdown and struggled to connect with his teammates, as highlighted by his 5-of-18 pass completion.
The 22-year-old QB, who was selected 231st overall in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, was also sacked twice and had two fumbles lost. He didn't attempt any runs, either.
While many were disappointed with Ewers' performance, others couldn't help but mention his backup QB when he was with the Longhorns: Manning.
Quinn Ewers' Performance Sparks Arch Manning Trolling
Manning joined the Longhorns in 2023 but stayed as Ewers' backup for two straight years. Ewers arrived at Texas in 2022 after a one-year stint with the Ohio State Buckeyes and kept the starting position until he went pro.
That being said, fans couldn't help but wonder about Manning's ability, especially if he couldn't dethrone Ewers, who struggled mightily in his first game in the NFL.
"Just a reminder that Arch Manning couldn’t beat out this guy Quinn Ewers in 2 full seasons," a viewer wrote. Another one said, "Seeing how bad Quinn ewers looks should make you question whether arch manning is actually good."
A commenter shared, "Quinn Ewers ladies and gentlemen - was starting in front of Arch Manning btw."
"How good can Arch Manning be if Ewers started over him all year?" another social media user wondered.
A fifth poster stated, "Watching this Fins Bears game and Arch Manning had to be trash for the Horns to keep trotting Ewers out there week after week."
"Arch Manning? The guy who couldn’t beat out Quinn Ewers?" a sixth follower noted.
Should Fans Be Concerned about Ewers and Manning?
To be fair to both Ewers and Manning, the criticisms — be it jokes — are not entirely fair.
For Ewers, he's playing in his first preseason game against NFL-level defense. Regardless of whether he's facing second- or third-string players, the pro level is still a different beast. As he adjusts to the level of play in the league, he should be able to perform better.
As for Manning, it's worth noting that Ewers was a very good QB in college. There's a reason why he's the MVP of the Big 12 Conference title game in 2023. Not to mention that in Texas's first year in the SEC in 2024, he helped lead the team to the conference championship.
Ewers finished his three-year run with the Longhorns with a total of 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns in 37 games played.
