Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shocked the NFL world this Wednesday when he revealed that he has battled cancer for several years.

Jones, 82, admit that he has been fighting stage 4 melanoma for roughly a decade. His cancer diagnosis came in June 2010. He quickly started receiving treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The longtime owner of the Cowboys had four surgeries, which included two operations on his lungs.

According to the Melanoma Research Alliance, stage 4 melanoma is difficult to cure because it has already spread to other parts of the body.

"A growing number of people respond well to treatment, achieve No Evidence of Disease (NED), and survive for many years," the Melanoma Research Alliance said. "Researchers are also working every day to improve the durability of response and increase the number of people who benefit from treatment. The 5-year survival rate as of 2018 for distant metastatic (Stage IV) melanoma is 22.5."

So how is Jones capable of running the Cowboys on a daily basis? He revealed that an experimental trial drug helped expedite his recovery process.

"I was saved by a fabulous treatment and great doctors and a real miracle [drug] called PD-1 [therapy]," Jones told the Dallas Morning News. "I went into trials for that PD-1 and it has been one of the great medicines."

Thankfully, Jones doesn't have any tumors at this time.

"I now have no tumors," Jones said.

After hearing about Jones' battle with cancer, countless NFL fans sent their thoughts and prayers on social media.

We're certainly hoping Jones stays as close to 100% as possible this NFL season.
