It has been tough sledding for the Los Angeles Dodgers over the last month. They have gone 12-20 since July 4, which is the fifth-worst record across MLB over that stretch. Their 6-7 loss against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday allowed the San Diego Padres to tie for first place in the National League West.
With the Padres' win against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, both the Dodgers and Padres sit with a 68-52 record. This is now the first time since 2010 that San Diego has had a share of first place in the division after the All-Star break.
L.A. has to turn things around, and they must do it soon. Manager Dave Roberts addressed the media following Tuesday's loss with a clear message that his team has to start stringing together some wins and get out of this hole, via The Athletic's Dennis Lin.
"Now it's a new season," said Roberts. "You look at the standings, and we just got to play better baseball and find ways to win games."
For the Padres, they are focused on their own game rather than being focused on what the Dodgers do night in and night out. While they see the standings, players like Jackson Merrill have their sights set on the opponents in front of them via the San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee.
"Of course, we see it, but we're playing our own game, not really trying to think about it right now," said Merrill. "Just play our own game and it'll come."
