“I picked him to win the Heisman,” Steele said on Wednesday, appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. “And I’ll tell you why. You go back two years ago, he had 19 touchdowns to just nine interceptions and people were wondering about him. But coming into that season in ’23, he lost his top three receivers due to injury.”
Klubnik, billed five stars by Rivals out of high school in 2022, enters his final season at Clemson ranking in the top five in program history in nearly every passing category, including touchdowns (fourth), passing yards (fourth), passing attempts (fourth) and completions (fifth).
The 6-2, 210-pound Austin (Texas) native has thrown for nearly 7,200 yards to this point, while throwing for 57 touchdowns to just 18 interceptions.
Klubnik is currently tied for second in Heisman Trophy betting odds (+900), according to BetMGM, trailing only Texas QB Arch Manning (+600) and joining LSU QB Grant Nussemeier (+900) in the second slot.

Of course Klubnik will get an opportunity to square off against Nussemeier on August 30.

“He’s operating behind my No. 2 rated offensive line,” Steele said. “He’s got my No. 2 set of receivers to throw to. And when I look at Clemson’s schedule, I’ve got them winning all 12 games. So I think Klubnik leads the nation in passing, leads a 12-0 team and I believe he’s going to take home the Heisman this year.”
