Rutgers Football offensive lineman Bryan Felter talks with the media about his return from injury and the upcoming 2025 season.
Rutgers Football training camp is in full swing and recently senior offensive lineman Bryan Felter had a chance to speak with the media after practice this week.
Here’s a look at what Felter had to say about his final year with the program, his offseason improvements, return from the injury and the expectations for the offense.
Q: What’s it like to be back on the field? Obviously you were off for a bit, but now you’re here in training camp, you’re playing. What’s it like to be back on the field?
BF: “Oh, it’s just great. It’s great to have this opportunity to be back out here with all my brothers. I’m just grinding every single day and getting better each day.”
Q: This time last year, you weren’t expecting to be here this summer, right? There may have been other plans. Do you look at this summer and this camp as maybe one final opportunity to leave a legacy, to leave a statement here at Rutgers?
BF: “I wouldn’t call it so much a legacy. I feel like the team itself has to leave a legacy. I mean, we’re all one. There’s not one individual person that needs to go and do something on the field. We play as a team, especially on the offense. Eleven people have to do everything right to get the play right.”
Q: Between you, Kobe, and Gus, that’s the three, the interior line, all back. Just how helpful is it to have those three get the middle of the line back together, having played so many snaps together?
BF: “I mean, we have chemistry, obviously. It’s great to be able to have the type of chemistry that we have and getting back into it.”
Q: Obviously, Hollin Pierce now in the NFL, new guy next to you at left tackle. What’s that adjustment been like?
“I don’t really think of it as an adjustment. I mean with coach flats (Pat Flaherty) and everything that he’s done for us, and all the knowledge and wisdom he has over offensive line play. It’s just kind of like filling someone’s shoes and bringing someone in.”
Q: I’m not sure if you watched the BTN special the other day. He didn’t list anybody by name, but they were very complimentary of the offensive line. Do you guys watch that and feel good about where the unit is, getting some national attention?
BF: “Yeah, I saw that, but we don’t try to read into those things. We just got to put our head down and get to work every single day. One inch of being better every day is what we’re looking for.”
Q: Take us into what the past few months have been like for you coming back. Are you back where you want to be, starting to get back where you want to be?
BF: “Yeah, I feel great. I mean, big props to our training staff here and getting me ready to play for this camp. I feel great. I’m ready to be back there out on the field.
Q: Just taking it back to that night at Washington, just what do you remember about when the injury happened and kind of what was your reaction, knowing that you weren’t going to be able to play the rest of the year, especially the way you guys were playing at that point?
BF: “I mean, it happened, and I played the rest of the game. Adrenaline was going. I don’t let that bother me and then unfortunate news the next day, but it didn’t let that bother me one bit.”
Q: Did you have an idea that something happened, or did the adrenaline just kind of master free?
BF: “I had an idea, but the game was more important than myself. I think we all as a team have toughness, and we all rally around each other when someone goes down or we need someone to pick us up.”
