The Brewers announced some details surrounding the Aug. 24 game against the Giants, when the team will pay tribute to late broadcaster Bob Uecker.
The Milwaukee Brewers kept "numerous surprises" close to their chest, but they did announce more details about the Aug. 24 celebration at American Family Field commemorating late broadcasting legend Bob Uecker.
The celebration, alongside a game against the San Francisco Giants, will shine a spotlight on the man who became the central figure in Brewers baseball for 54 seasons. He died in January at age 90.
Here's what to know:
- Gates will open at 10:30 a.m. CT, and the Brewers are encouraging fans to arrive in their seats no later than 12:15 p.m. for the pregame program hosted by another broadcasting legend, Bob Costas. "A number of special guests from Bob’s life of building family and friendships across the world will participate in the program and will again be featured during in-game activities and interviews," the Brewers said. The game itself starts at 1:10 p.m.
- The Brewers will be selling a limited-edition retail collection throughout the stadium, including a pop-up location on the loge level. That includes a poster from original work created by artist Ryan Duggan, and a portion of proceeds will benefit charity. The Uecker memorial uniform patch will return for one day only and will be available to apply to jerseys purchased that day or existing purchased jerseys.
- Ilene Graff, who played Marsha Owens on "Mr. Belvedere," will sing the national anthem. Uecker played the patriarch of the Owens family, George, on the sitcom that ran from 1985 to 1990.
- All 50/50 raffle proceeds will benefit charities that Uecker supported.
“It is truly impossible to honor the iconic Bob Uecker in just one afternoon of celebration, but we are putting all of our resources into this special day,” said Rick Schlesinger, the Brewers president of business operations, in a news release. “Bob truly was the embodiment of the Milwaukee Brewers, the soundtrack to our summers and the greatest ambassador to the world that Wisconsin will ever know. We miss him every day ― his voice, his passion and his perfectly timed humor ― but Sunday’s tribute is just the first step in continuing a celebration of his remarkable life and legacy.”
