Gerrit Cole stunned fans back in March when he was unable to lift his right arm after an exhibition outing. Turned out he needed UCL reconstruction surgery to repair the torn ligament.

He underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2025 season. Cole is an ace pitcher for the Yankees. In 2024, he pitched 99 innings and was 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA and 99 strikeouts.

Fortunately, things are going in the right direction with Cole starting a throwing rehabilitation program Monday.

"Cole (Tommy John surgery) resumedplaying catch on Aug. 11. He is still anticipating a 14-month recovery, putting his expected return in May 2026," MLB.com reported.

After the drill, Cole expressed, "I felt really good today. ... It’s a big one, the first day throwing. I’ve been building up to it for a few weeks, so it’s nice to get outside and get it accomplished and have it go well.

“We have a good setup in California and good communication; I can upload my throwing program to the platform, so we’ll pretty much talk every day.”
