It has been a busy offseason for the Phoenix Suns as they have completely changed their roster after missing the playoffs last season.

Phoenix began their offseason by trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets and they later bought out Bradley Beal’s contract, officially ending their big three era.

Devin Booker is the only star remaining from their trio and he is set to be the focal point of their future after they signed him to a massive contract extension earlier this summer.

Of course, the Suns have made some notable additions to their roster this offseason by acquiring Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and Mark Williams and they also selected Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea in the 2025 draft.

Green was the Suns’ biggest addition this offseason as part of the Durant trade as he is set to be the team’s second option next season next to Booker in the backcourt.

Jalen Green named among NBA's most overpaid players

Despite this, SB Nations’ Ricky O’Donnell listed Green as one of the NBA’s most overpaid players due to a key reason.

“The No. 2 overall pick in 2021, Green can score in bunches when he’s hot, but he’s rarely made a winning impact. His annual March scoring takeovers are fun to watch, but have never been sustainable, and it’s a big reason why the Rockets dumped him in the Kevin Durant trade,” O’Donnell wrote. “Green has talent, but overall he’s an inefficient shot-chucker who doesn’t play defense and doesn’t see the floor well as a passer. Even beyond the KD factor, losing Green feels like addition by subtraction for a Rockets team ready to push for a championship.”

It is clear that O’Donnell does not believe that Green will live up to his three-year, $105 million contract due to his shooting struggles and poor defense.

To make matters worse for Green, his fit next to Booker in the backcourt does not look like a solid one on paper and if it fails, the young guard may be on the trade block next season.

Of course, the Suns are hoping that the pairing of Green and Booker in the backcourt will pan out next season as Green was the best player they received in return for Durant as he is set to be a key piece of their future as they try to become a contender once again.
