Travis Hunter could miss this week’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen said Friday. The two-way star is dealing with an upper-body injury.

Hunter didn’t participate in Friday’s walk-through out of an abundance of caution. He instead watched the entire practice with a play sheet in his hands while standing next to Jaguars wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett, according to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has been practicing on both offense and defense as he goes through his first training camp with the Jaguars. Coen said it’s team protocol for a player to stand next to a coach with a play sheet if he’s hurt so they can stay focused on the task at hand even though they’re not participating.

“That’s what they’re supposed to do when they’re hurt,” Coen said, via ESPN. “We want ’em to make sure that they’re locked in, getting all the calls, understanding the call and being able to watch and execute as well in their minds.”

Hunter – the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft – played in Jacksonville’s preseason opener last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played 18 snaps, including 10 on offense. He totaled two catches for nine yards on the opening drive, but didn’t record a defensive stat.

However, Coen said he thought Hunter played well on offense with some solid catches. While he noticed a missed tackle on defense, it was still a good debut for the former Colorado star.

“I think he made a couple good catches on some option routes,” Coen said in his postgame press conference, via NFL.com’s Grant Condon. “He missed the one tackle defensively that I noticed, like that was the only thing that I kind of noticed. In terms of his about his overall play, I’ll have to watch the tape on how he operated defensively a little bit more, but I thought offensively he made the right decisions on those option routes. He made a good catch and almost broke out of that one.”
