Here are some of the reported notable takeaways from the Spartans' second fall camp scrimmage that took place this past weekend
Michigan State football held its second scrimmage of fall preseason camp this past Saturday, and it sounds like there were a number of notable takeaways from the session. One of which, was the offense winning the scrimmage.
The Spartans continued their preparation for the upcoming 2025 season -- which is now less than two weeks away -- by holding their second fall camp scrimmage this weekend. According to Matt Sheehan of Locked On Spartans, it was the Michigan State offense that "won" the scrimmage and had a better overall day than the defense.
"With the star power on the offense, maybe it's not a surprise to hear they won the scored portion of the scrimmage on Saturday," Sheehan said during the episode released on Sunday.
Per Sheehan, the defense won the first scrimmage held last Saturday but in that first scrimmage, the offense didn't have all of its star players participating.
Sheehan also noted he heard Spartans starting quarterback Aidan Chiles looked "confident" and "exciting" during the second scrimmage this past weekend. Chiles reportedly had a 50-plus yard touchdown run during the session.

Other Updates Out of Scrimmage
Here are some of the other notable takeaways from Sheehan out of the second scrimmage:
- There were no notable new injuries during the scrimmage
- The battle for the third starting spot at wide receiver remained tight, with Chrishon McCray, Braylon Collier and Rodney Bullard Jr. all still in the mix for that final starting spot
- Brandon Tullis and Makhi Frazier are emerging as the top two running backs for the Spartans
- Backup quarterback Alessio Milivojevic continues to shine for the Spartans, with another strong day during the second scrimmage
- Starting tight end Jack Velling was seen out of the walking boot, which aligns with the report from late last week that he has missed time during fall camp but is expected back for the start of the season
- Joshua Eaton has solidified himself as one of the starting cornerbacks, but a battle remains for the second spot with Chance Rucker appearing to have the slight edge currently
- True freshman defensive lineman Derrick Simmons continues to impress and appears destined to play a role on the Spartans defense in his first year
