Now in his second season as the lead broadcaster for NASCAR on NBC, Leigh Diffey is still inundated with criticism. There are a number of fans who can’t get past his voice, his delivery, and his broadcast style. What is Diffey supposed to do about his voice?

Hailing from Australia, Leigh Diffey is not a usual voice in American motorsports. Except, he’s spent many years calling motorsports and other sports in America. It isn’t like Diffey appeared from nowhere to take the lead role at NBC.

Speaking to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Diffey addressed the haters and critics. It’s something he tries to ignore, but it is sadly a part of modern life.

“You know, unfortunately, it’s the state of the world,” Diffey said to the News-Journal. “And I just think there’s a lot of negativity … whether it is sports, politics, business, anything. Everybody tends to get on social media and say a lot more negative things than positive things.

“Anyway, look, the majority of the critics, or the negative Nellies … simply because of the way I speak. I can’t choose the way I speak, nor can any of them. We are who we are. We’re all different for a reason.”

Leigh Diffey has already called a few instant classics. The race at Richmond in 2024 comes to mind. As do the races at Watkins Glen, Daytona, and Talladega. Despite the haters, Diffey has delivered for NASCAR fans and will continue to do so.

Leigh Diffey ready to call another Daytona thriller

The energy and enthusiasm that Leigh Diffey has for racing is unmatched. He creates his own world from the booth and gives fans a thrilling and enthralling picture as they watch the action on the track.

Last season, Diffey gave an epic call for Daytona. Harrison Burton’s first career Cup Series win. Jeff Burton was in the booth to watch it. All of the elements came together as Diffey cried, “Jeff! Your little boy has done it!” It was an epic moment that warranted an epic call.

During his career in sports broadcasting, Diffey has made a reputation for himself. He is knowledgeable when it comes to a variety of sports, and NASCAR is no different. If someone wants to let his voice get in the way of hearing his great calls or get in the way of a great race, that’s up to them to decide.

As for the rest of us, Leigh Diffey is just fine. In fact, we’re looking forward to hearing him call the last few laps on Saturday night.
