Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa finished off his impressive preseason with a bang after the rookie tallied his third touchdown in as many contests in the 26-7 loss to the Houston Texans on Saturday afternoon.
TeSlaa caught two balls for 41 yards, with his 33-yard touchdown on a deep ball down the sideline from quarterback Kyle Allen being the highlight.
"It was a very detailed route," Lions head coach Dan Campbell said after the game. "That tells you that he’s taking the coaching, and he’s growing."
The Arkansas product finishes his first preseason in the NFL with eight catches for 146 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
According to Campbell, TeSlaa has done enough to garner a role with the team early on in 2025, which is a big vote of confidence for the rookie.
"He’s going to continue to get better and better. I’m very pleased. We’re very pleased with where he’s at after six weeks of camp because that’s really what it’s been. We just finished six weeks, so I’d say, if you took most receivers, he’d be in the upper echelon of those, as far as development," Campbell said. "It’s pretty good. It’s not easy to develop as a receiver in this league and be ready to go.
"I think there’s a place for him to help us early in this season."
TeSlaa said his goal this offseason was to earn the trust of his teammates and coaches, and the young wide receiver believes he has done just that.
"Obviously, as a rookie, still trying to find my role on this team. Just to be able to build that trust from the coaching staff and the offense as a whole, the play-callers, and then, ultimately, my teammates, I think is a super big thing for me as a rookie," TeSlaa explained.
TeSlaa's ascension is bad news for veteran Tim Patrick, who could lose snaps to the rookie. Patrick battled injury in training camp and, by all accounts, he didn't have a strong showing during the summer overall.
With the 2025 preseason in the books, the Lions will trim their roster down to 53 by Tuesday, and then Detroit will turn its attention to its Week 1 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 7.
