Jauan Jennings is dealing with ankle and shoulder injuries for Week 3. We break down what it means for fantasy football decisions.
The San Francisco 49ers will once again be without starting QB Brock Purdy, as head coach Kyle Shanahan says Purdy is “highly unlikely” to face the Cardinals this week. That gives Mac Jones the start for a second week in a row. They also are without TE George Kittle who is on the PUP list, but hope WR Jauan Jennings can go, as he is dealing with both shoulder and ankle injuries.
Jennings suffered the shoulder injury in Week 1, but was able to practice and play in Week 2, where he then suffered the ankle injury. He was able to tough through that injury as well, on his way to a big game in New Orleans against the Saints, where he caught 5-of-10 targets for 89 yards and a touchdown.
It seems like a good sign that he played through the injury, but he was unable to practice all week. He only practiced on a limited basis on Friday for Week 2 and played, so he doesn’t need much practice to be able to go. He did end up working on the side on Friday, but had no official practice time.
Jauan Jennings injury updates
Jennings is listed as questionable for Week 3 vs. the Cardinals due to shoulder and ankle injuries.
Fantasy football analysis
Jennings saw 10 targets and had a good game with Mac Jones despite the downgrade at quarterback and Jennings’ injuries. If he can suit up, he still has fantasy appeal. He also would be at more risk for an in-game re-injury.
If he can’t play, Ricky Pearsall would get an obvious bump in work as the de facto No. 1 receiver, while Kendrick Bourne and Marquez Valdes-Scantling would see an increase as well. Bourne would be my pick for a flier if needed, but Christian McCaffrey and Pearsall would be my only must-starts in this situation.
