NFL analyst debates whether Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will throw for 30 touchdowns this season.
Will Caleb Williams be the first Chicago Bears quarterback to throw 30 touchdown passes in a season? originally appeared on The Sporting News
There have been many questions about Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams after the first two games of the season. Chicago was 0-2 entering the matchup on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Bears took down the Cowboys by a final score of 31-14. In the game, he completed 67.9% of his passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns. Dallas's defense is not very good this season, but this was a game that Williams had to perform well in. With him playing well in this game, maybe he can be on the right track for them moving forward.
NFL Analyst Believes that Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams Can Throw For 30 Touchdowns This Season
Williams during his rookie season threw for 20 touchdown passes. No quarterback in franchise history has accomplished this feat. Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports answered if it was an overreaction or not if Williams will be the first Bears quarterback to have 30 passing touchdowns in a season. He believes it could be a reality and said,
"What an afternoon for Williams, as he threw four touchdown passes in the Bears' rout of the Cowboys. This is a performance the Bears saw coming, as Williams finally looked comfortable in Ben Johnson's offense. Yes, the Cowboys' defense isn't good and players are banged up in the secondary, but there are the types of games Williams has to have if he wants to reach his potential as an NFL quarterback.
Can he throw for 30 touchdowns this season? No Bears player has ever accomplished that feat in the franchise's 100-plus-year history. Williams has seven touchdown passes through three games and is on pace for 40 on the season! It seems like a no-brainer he'll reach 30 given how he's still growing in Johnson's offense.
If Williams stays healthy, he'll set some Bears' single-season passing records."
Through the first three games of the season, he has completed 63.4% of his passes for 715 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception. He also has rushed for 97 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 6.1 yards per carry.
The Bears will next play the Las Vegas Raiders (1-2). This is a winnable game for this team and another chance for Williams to have a three-touchdown game or more. This could very well be the year that he will pass for 30 or more touchdowns. If he doesn't, it will be really close and the most important thing for this team is for him to improve in Ben Johnson's offense from week-to-week.
