A quarterback has never made a play quite like this.
Patrick Mahomes' epic tackle helped save the Chiefs' season originally appeared on The Sporting News
As the pass traveled backwards out of Patrick Mahomes' divinely bestowed right hand, the Kansas City Chiefs' season threatened to go backward with it.
The Chiefs, entering Sunday night 0-2, were tied 6-6 in a blah first half against the New York Giants, and this backward pass constituted a fumble, and there went Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke to scoop it up and try to reach the end zone.
Mahomes didn't hesitate. He knew what he'd done. And he hit the turbo button on a direct path to where Okereke was about to pick up the football.
And that's where it got crazy.

Not only did Mahomes hit Okereke with a huge tackle. He also managed to snatch the football right out of the linebacker's arms and back into his own.
From a possible touchdown to not even a turnover.
The Chiefs had to punt on the next play, but it preserved the tie game, and Kansas City woke up in the second half to earn their first win of the season.
In large part, thanks to a tackle and strip of the football by one of the greatest quarterbacks ever.
“That’s how he rolls,” head coach Andy Reid told reporters postgame. “He goes 100 miles an hour… It seems like every week he does something like that. The guys know that he’s all in. It’s not like he’s just throwing the ball back there. He’s going to do whatever it takes to come out on top in the game.”

Mahomes had never started a season 0-2 before. He wasn't going to let his Chiefs fall to 0-3.
Whatever it took, Mahomes was willing to do.
“That was a big-time tackle," Mahomes said after the game. "I’m not going to try to do that again. We’ll throw the ball forward from now on.”
