With the summer transfer window now closed, the Barcelona sporting department has shifted its focus to contract renewals, a process that began last season.

At present, two key first-team renewals are pending: Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia. The former is close to reaching an agreement, and once that is done, the process for the latter’s extension will begin.

Meanwhile, Barcelona also want to secure their brightest young prospects coming through La Masia, one of whom happens to be Pedro Fernandez ‘Dro’.

Barcelona want to tie down Dro until 2031

Indeed, according to MARCA, Barcelona want to extend Dro’s contract by five years until 2031 and keep him at the club for a long time.

Dro’s current deal runs until 2027, and the club’s intention is to renew it in January when he turns 18.

This follows the same approach taken with Lamine Yamal and Cubarsí, who signed professional contracts upon reaching adulthood. Initial talks have reportedly been held with his agent.

The versatile attacking midfielder has not yet made his official debut with Barcelona, although he did feature in pre-season with the first team, where he was one of the standout performers on the Asian tour.

Dro scored in the opening match against Vissel Kobe, one of three fixtures played in Japan and South Korea.

Dro was called up for Barcelona’s first three league matches this season, against Mallorca, Levante and Rayo Vallecano, but did not get any minutes.

However, an injury he sustained while playing for Barça Atletic has kept him sidelined for two weeks, meaning he has missed the last three matches. But Dro returned to training with the first team on Tuesday and could return to the squad against Real Oviedo.
