ESPN has an odd take here.
Chiefs 'surge' into playoff calculations after Giants win originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Kansas City Chiefs, even after their Week 3 win over the New York Giants, have just as many skeptics over their ability to make a Super Bowl run as before.
Sitting at 1-2, the Chiefs have a lot of work to do to be back in that sort of conversation, and for some, even the playoffs are a little iffy right now, but this is Kansas City, so it has to get itself right eventually, one would think.
And now here comes ESPN with a rather odd take when it comes to their playoff projections, stating that after the Giants win, Kansas City has "surged" back into contention.
"The Chiefs have surged back into our projections after their win over the Giants on Sunday night," ESPN wrote. "While it wasn't a perfect win, it got Kansas City back into the top five in the AFC in playoff odds. Patrick Mahomes is certainly looking forward to the return of Xavier Worthy (shoulder) and Rashee Rice (suspension) in what Kansas City hopes will be just a few weeks."

Chiefs still predicted to be playoff team
Surge is an interesting word, because not many would see the performance at MetLife Stadium and feel confident about the Chiefs as a playoff force. ESPN has the Chiefs making the playoffs as a 63 percent probability, and with Patrick Mahomes at the helm, they surely make the postseason, right?
Given the talent on defense and the reinforcements coming back on offense with Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice both to return in the coming weeks, Patrick Mahomes will have his best two weapons at his disposal. So, it makes sense.
It is unknown whether Worthy will return against the Baltimore Ravens, and Rice is still a few weeks away from returning, as he serves a six-game suspension for an off-the-field incident in the offseason.
Can the Chiefs stay afloat until they get both weapons back?
In short, if they want to be a playoff team, they have to.
