Dani Olmo set for huge Barcelona chance after Fermin Lopez injury

Time to shine

Dani Olmo spoke about his desire for more minutes after starting, scoring and grabbing an assist on Sunday as Barcelona beat Getafe 3-0 in La Liga.

“I’m happy to keep getting minutes, it’s what I need to get into the rhythm I need to be able to help the team. So I’m happy with this as well,” he told reporters after the victory.

The game was Olmo’s sixth of the season in all competitions for Barcelona, but he has only been named in the starting XI twice by Hansi Flick.

Fermin Lopez has been preferred but he’s now sidelined for several weeks through injury and will miss some key games, including the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The injury is likely to spell good news for Olmo who could now be handed the game time he craves and the chance to stake a claim for a starting spot again.

Olmo’s backheel for Ferran Torres’s opening goal against Getafe was a great piece of skill and highlighted once again his ability to create space and generate chances for his team-mates

Lopez’s loss will be a real blow in the coming weeks but his absence does give Olmo the chances to gain some rhythm in the first team and try to rediscover his very best form at Barcelona again.
