Veronica Burton, Paige Bueckers, Sonia Citron headline Unrivaled’s most high-profile acquisitions.
All week long, Unrivaled has been announcing which WNBA players will play in the league’s second season. The professional women’s 3-on-3 basketball league, which tips off in January in Miami, has announced the names of 18 participating players. Of those, 11 are returners from Year 1, while 7 are brand-new additions.
The 7 new Unrivaled players are:
- Kiki Iriafen, Washington Mystics
- Monique Billings, Golden State Valkyries
- Veronica Burton, Golden State Valkyries
- Paige Bueckers, Dallas Wings
- Saniya Rivers, Connecticut Sun
- Erica Wheeler, Seattle Storm
- Sonia Citron, Washington Mystics
Of note, the league has already secured four of the top rookies from this year’s draft class — including All-Stars Paige Bueckers, Kiki Iriafen, and Sonia Citron. Burton, Wheeler, and Billings are three of the league’s most improved players from last year to this year, and were therefore fitting additions.
The 11 returning players are:
- Kate Martin, Golden State Valkyries (played inaugural season for the Laces)
- Dearica Hamby, Los Angeles Sparks (played inaugural season for the Vinyl)
- Natasha Cloud, New York Liberty (played inaugural season for the Phantom)
- Aaliyah Edwards, Connecticut Sun (played inaugural season for the Mist)
- Alyssa Thomas, Phoenix Mercury (played inaugural season for the Laces)
- Rickea Jackson, Los Angeles Sparks (played inaugural season for the Mist)
- Satou Sabally, Phoenix Mercury (played inaugural season for the Phantom)
- Breanna Stewart, New York Liberty (played inaugural season for the Mist)
- Lexie Hull, Indiana Fever (played inaugural season for the Rose)
- Azurá Stevens, Los Angeles Sparks (played inaugural season for the Rose)
- Jackie Young, Las Vegas Aces (played inaugural season for the Laces)
The league is continuing to unveil names of participating players throughout the week. In total, 48 players will be on Unrivaled rosters, while 6 players will be in a development pool. Last year, 36 players participated, and at least a few of those athletes won’t be returning as they recover from injury.
Unrivaled games will take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in Miami, and games will be broadcast on the TNT Sports network.
