Bryson DeChambeau responds to Brandel Chamblee's 'captain's nightmare' comments at Ryder Cup

Bryson DeChambeau responded to Brandel Chamblee's comments from Monday at the Ryder Cup, calling him a "captain's nightmare."

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Bryson DeChambeau makes headlines anywhere he goes, but he has been in the news cycle from the moment Ryder Cup week kicked off Monday.

On Golf Channel, analyst Brandel Chamblee called DeChambeau a "captain's nightmare" and even accused him of using bots to inflate the success of his YouTube content.

Tuesday and Wednesday, DeChambeau's Team USA teammates quickly came to his defense, saying he would be a big key to the red, white and blue's success this week at Bethpage Black.

On Thursday, DeChambeau finally got to respond during his press conference to those comments. He ultimately took a high road, but he also had his own subtle dig back at Chamblee's comments.

"I think it's great. I think any time that people can throw stuff at me like that, I enjoy it. I appreciate it. I think it's good for ultimately the game of golf because it starts to spur conversation on," DeChambeau said. "Ultimately, on YouTube, you have to be verified to be able to subscribe and what not. So I don't think it's really that honest or true. But it is what it is."

DeChambeau has 2.34 million subscribers on YouTube, and the lowest number of views his past five videos has is 1.5 million. He also did one of his "Break 50" videos with Adam Sandler, and that video has more than 8 million views.

Making his third Ryder Cup appearance, DeChambeau is bound to be a pivotal piece for the U.S. this week. His on-course performance this week will speak volumes more than anything he says in a press conference or do on his YouTube channel, but at the end of the day, DeChambeau is happy more people are paying attention to golf.

"I mean, any time you can say something like that and create more buzz for the game of golf, it's great."
