When Bayern Munich dismissed Thomas Müller, there was a large void left within the locker room. To cover for that, Bayern Munich has seen several players step in to help with those duties per Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Following Thomas Müller’s departure, who was the most prominent loud leader in the dressing room, The hierarchy is now distributed across significantly more shoulders. In addition to captain Manuel Neuer and vice-captain Joshua Kimmich, the two other players from the team council, Harry Kane and new signing Jonathan Tah, as well as senior players such as Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry also bear more responsibility.
Harry Kane explained how it is working to Bild as well.
“It’s a mix of other players. Thomas was always a loud leader, but we still have others like Josh (Kimmich), Manu (Neuer), myself, or even Serge (Gnabry) and a few others. When a player like Thomas leaves, a leader like him, it puts pressure on other players to step up and be a little louder in certain situations than in the past. That’s why I think it’s a bit more spread out across the team now. But as you can see, we have a strong environment right now. The current team has a very good sense of togetherness. And that’s how we started the season,” said Kane.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund said that younger players also have louder voices now and that the new players like Nicolas Jackson and Luis Díaz have made a seamless transition into the locker room.
“There are a few young players, Aleks Pavlović, Tom Bischof. Besides Manu, Jo Kimmich, who have been here longer. Michael Olise feels extremely comfortable in the group. It’s just a good mix at the moment,” Freund said. “The guys are very positive. I think they’ve been welcomed really well. I’d say it feels really good. Lucho and Nico are not having trouble adjusting. That’s exactly what we expected. They’re really positive guys off the pitch as well.”
