A recent Illinois high school football game was marred by an ugly brawl between two teams.

Springfield High and Springfield Southeast met this past Monday to conclude a game that was postponed over the weekend due to inclement weather. But the time between the start of the contest must have sparked some issues, as eight players and an assistant coach were ejected following an altercation.

Early in the fourth, an incident occurred that resulted in the ejections of players and the coach, according to a report by PJStar.com. Springfield High would go on to post a 55-12 victory, improving to 3-1 on the year.

But, they could struggle in the next game when they take on Quincy Notre Dame, as could Springfield Southeast. That is because Illinois High School Association rules dictate a minimum one-game suspension for being ejected. 

The two schools have had trouble with one another in the past. There was an incident following a January basketball game that led to a double forfeit and a parking lot fight in 2009.
