The Horns have not dropped a set in five matches at Greg this season.
The No. 2 Texas Longhorns swept the No. 21 Missouri Tigers in their eighth top-25 showdown thus far to remain undefeated in the 2025 season, improving their record, 10-0. The Longhorns haven’t dropped a set at Greg in five home matches this season.
In the first set, Longhorns jumped out to an early 11-5 lead with three service aces. The Tigers did not give up so easily and fought valiantly, highlighted by two service aces of their own from senior outside hitter Caylen Alexander to cut into the lead, but junior setter Ella Swindle’s nine assists maintained enough of a margin to eventually close out the first set, 25-19.
In the second set, both teams traded points knotting the match 7-7 until the Tigers jumped out to an 11-8 lead with Alexander at the offensive helm. Texas fought back with a 5-1 rally to regain the lead at 13-12. After two lead exchanges and junior outside hitter Torrey Stafford’s five kills, along with five assists from Swindle, Texas was able to close out the second set, 26-24, after 14 ties.
The third set went the distance ending, 27-25. The back-and-forth battle continued until the Tigers took a four-point lead, 15-11, forcing Texas to make adjustments. Texas fired back with Swindle, who recorded 16 out of her 37 assists in the third set while the seesaw of a game continued as Missouri and Texas traded points to bring the match to 24. Ultimately, the Longhorns rallied with back-to-back points on kills from freshmen Cari Spears and Taylor Harvey to break the tie and close out the match with a 3-0 sweep.
Stafford led Texas offensively with 14 kills, adding three service aces and nine digs, while Swindle was efficient in her return after missing the win over Vanderbilt. Spears contributed 14 kills, but it wasn’t an especially efficient match in attack for the Horns with a .313 hitting percentage and 26 total errors, including six from freshman outside hitter Abby Vander Wal.
The Texas will face Georgia in Athens on October 1 at 6 p.m. Central, broadcasting on SEC Network+.
