Well that wasn’t the half I expected or the half Georgia could afford. This one isn’t over, but it’s trying to get that way.
A few halftime thoughts:
The ‘Dawgs are doing a lot of things wrong, but one of them is not running the ball. Georgia has rolled up 104 yards on 17 carries even with some ineffective shots on the goal line. If I were Mike Bobo I would continue to run the dang ball, but also continue to take advantage of play action opportunities when they present themselves.
Georgia’s third down defense was trash in the first half. Irregardless of how this one turns out, that’s something that has to be addressed. When you’re counting on putting pressure on the quarterback to get off the field on third down you have to get home. Georgia has been terrible at that, and they’ve paid the price.
The one thing Georgia really couldn’t afford to do going into the half was to give up a touchdown, which they did in defensively impotent fashion. The Bulldogs need a stop coming out of the half to keep this one from getting away against the Tide once again.
Again, we’ve seen the Bulldogs come back from bigger deficits against better teams, but that first half ain’t gonna do it.
