Chet Gresham takes us through his favorite picks for FanDuel’s Week 4 DFS matchup between the Cowboys and Packers
Sunday Night Football brings the 6.5-point favorite Green Bay Packers into Dallas to take on the Cowboys. The drama draw for this matchup comes from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones trading the team’s best defensive player, Micah Parsons, away to the Packers just before the season started. And with the Cowboys down their center Cooper Beebe and right guard Tyler Booker, they’re going to have trouble with a great defensive line, led by Parsons.
On offense, the Cowboys are also hurting, as CeeDee Lamb will miss the next few games with an ankle sprain. Without Lamb, the offense is severely impacted, as seen last week against the Bears.
The Packers offense is down their top fantasy producing receiver, as Jayden Reed is done for the season. It’s a big loss and their lack of offense without him last week is concerning, but his absence doesn’t leave nearly the hole that Lamb’s does.
Below we will take a look at the best DFS plays for this Sunday night showdown.
Captain’s Picks
George Pickens, WR, Cowboys (FLEX $10,600, CPT $15,900)
With Lamb out, Pickens is the closest they have to a true No. 1. Jalen Tolbert, KeVontae Turpin, and Jake Ferguson are all in play, but Pickens is the safest and highest upside receiver for a Cowboys’ team that is currently 6.5-point underdogs. They will need to pass the ball this week and Pickens can make contested catches against good defenses.
Romeo Doubs, WR, Packers (FLEX $8,000, CPT $12,000)
Matthew Golden, WR, Packers (FLEX $6,600, CPT $9,900)
The Cowboys have gotten beat deep more often than not this season. It’s pretty embarrassing, as teams have passed 20+ yards down field 17 times in three games, completing 11 of those for 444 yards and five touchdowns. The next worst are the Patriots, who’ve allowed 7-of-13 completions for 212 yards and a touchdown on their 20+ yard targets. Any receiver has a good matchup against the Cowboys, but Golden has seen one more 20+ yard target than Doubs, while both have seen deep targets. Doubs has been more successful in a small sample size, but Golden is cheaper and the better talent. His increase in work last week was a good sign as well.
Josh Jacobs, RB, Packers (FLEX $XXX, CPT $)
Jacobs is the most expensive player to roster this week on FanDuel. That shouldn’t deter you, as there are plenty of value options this week. And if the game goes like the Packers would like, they’ll run the ball a bunch. Jordan Love ranks 23rd in pass attempts, while Jacobs ranks second in rushing attempts on the season. The Cowboys aren’t as bad statistically against the run as they are the pass, but they do rank 18th in EPA per rushing attempt and 15th in DVOA so far this season. I’d rather throw against them, and they will, but they want to run the ball and if they get a lead, they will do their best to run out the clock.
Value flex plays
KaVonte Turpin, WR, Cowboys (FLEX $5,400, CPT $8,100)
Both Turpin and Jalen Tolbert are good value plays in a game the Cowboys might need to throw while trailing. I like Turpin more, as his manufactured touches and ability after the catch give me hope for multiple big plays. Tolbert may end up with more targets, but it will likely be tougher getting hi the ball with Parsons crashing through the line.
Dontayvion Wicks, WR, Packers (FLEX $6,000, CPT $9,000)
Wicks didn’t do much in his first game as the starting slot receiver, b ut neither did any of the Packers in their 10-13 loss to the Browns. He gets a much better matchup this week and is at a great price coming off that game.
