Mistaken Greeting: How Did Dembele’s Mother Cause an Awkward Moment for Former French President Inside Paris Stadium?
Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy was caught in awkward situation while attending Paris Saint Germain’s 2 - 0 victory over Auxerre in ligue 1 during pre match ceremony honoring Ousmane Dembele’s Ballon d’Or triumph.
Confusion at Parc des Princes
According to journalist Guy Sitruk of the Sports Journalists' Union, Sarkozy greeted several people in the stadium tunnel before mistakenly approaching Senegalese TV reporter.
Believing she was Dembele’s mother, he told her:
"You must be proud of him. You raised him well. I saw the ceremony on Monday and I was with him"
The reporter, surprised but composed, simply smiled and replied:
"We were with him" without correcting Sarkozy.
