Yankees news: Aaron Judge finishes historic regular season; Chisholm seems ok

Closing the book on the regular season, and turning to October

MLB.com: After an intense final Sunday of the regular season, the playoff picture is set. Despite sweeping the White Sox and Orioles to end the campaign, the Yankees lose on the tiebreaker rule to the Blue Jays, who capture their first AL East title since 2015. The Yankees will then host the Red Sox in a best two of three series starting Tuesday in the Bronx. All three other series promise some kind of intrigue, although the one I really want to watch is the Cubs hosting the Padres.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: We have a day to catch our breath before playoff baseball starts, and we can reflect on everything we saw from Aaron Judge this past year. He clinched his first ever batting title with close of play Sunday, an award that many would have laughed at his prospects of winning when he debuted, or even as he began to show what generational talent he already had. With a single in his 5000th career PA on Sunday, Judge also officially owns the sixth-highest career OPS in MLB history, with that minimum qualifier.

NJ.com | Bob Klapisch: While that sixth spot on the career OPS list won’t affect many votes in 2025, Klap does reveal that if he did have an MVP vote this season, it would go to Judge with a bullet. Many other brand names in baseball coverage have said similar, making me think that despite the internet discourse, the actual race may not end up as close as we think.

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: Jazz Chisholm Jr. seems to be OK after taking a pitch off the bicep Saturday. X-rays and CT scans were clean, and he was able to take a pinch hit at bat in Game 162 yesterday. Jazz has been a dynamic piece of the lineup all year, and if for no other reason than keeping Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe out of the sixth and seventh slots in the lineup, here’s hoping he’s 100 percent for Tuesday night.
