Bayern can see themselves renewing contract of 'shining light' Kane

Bayern Munich can see themselves renewing the contract of star striker Harry Kane beyond 2027, board member for sports Max Eberl said on Monday. "If you have a good mix you can definitely keep older players who simply have incredible quality for longer," Eberl said before Bayern's departure for Cyprus where they play a Champions League match at Pafos on Tuesday.

"Harry doesn't seem old at all, he seems to have fallen into the fountain of youth, given how active he is on the pitch. So it's absolutely conceivable for us."

England captain Kane, 32, arrived in Munich in 2023 on a four year contract. Last week, he became the fastest player to reach 100 goals for a club in his 104th Bayern match.

"Harry is an extraordinary player for us," Eberl said, naming him among the "shining lights" in the team.

There has been talk about a 2026 release clause lately and a possible return into the Premier League. Kane has said he and his family are very happy in Munich and that renewal talks "could happen."

"He emphasised that he wanted to come to Bayern. He also said that it's simply fantastic to play here and win titles with us," Eberl said.

"We want to continue working with him for a long time to come, so we will discuss the next steps with him in a very relaxed way."

Eberl said that renewal talks with France international Dayot Upamecano are trickier, amid reported interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. The centre back's contract expires after the season.

"I'm not surprised that many clubs are interested in Dayot. We are also interested in extending his contract, and that takes a very, very long time,’ Eberl said.

"We are trying to convince him of the Bayern Munich project. We want to keep him."
