A suspected hamstring issue saw Danns, who has missed much of the past year through injury, taken off over the weekend.
Following a handful of first team appearances in the 2023-24 season, young Liverpool striker Jayden Danns quickly rose up the ranks of the club’s youth hopefuls. Going back more than a year now, though, the now 19-year-old’s story has increasingly been defined by injuries.
A pre-season injury last summer saw him sidelined into November. Then a loan to Sunderland in January as he and the club sought out a situation where he could get back on track with regular first team football saw him unable to play a minute due to a back injury that ruled him out through the end of the season.
Now, having worked his way back to full fitness and into at least the fringes of first team consideration, with a substitute appearance—his first first team minutes in over eight moths—against Southampton in the League Cup last week, Danns has suffered another injury setback.
He followed up his Southampton appearance with a start against Ipswich Town in the youth and reserve oriented Premier League 2, but 31 minutes into the match had to come off with a suspected hamstring injury. The club has since released a statement saying that further tests will have to be done.
Hopefully it will turn out to be a mild injury, and it’s worth remembering that players returning from long spells with injuries often do struggle with secondary issues as they work to get their bodies back up to speed. Still, it’s unfortunate news for the promising Liverpool youngster.
