Everton manager David Moyes admitted he was left disappointed after his side were held to a 1-1 draw against West Ham at Goodison Park.
The Toffees made a strong start in front of their home crowd and broke the deadlock in the 18th minute. Michael Keane rose well inside the box and powered a header beyond the goalkeeper to give his side the advantage.
Despite controlling much of the play in the first half, Everton failed to turn their dominance into further goals. That lack of ruthlessness came back to haunt them as West Ham fought their way back into the contest.
The visitors drew level midway through the second half when Jarrod Bowen converted in the 65th minute. From that point, Everton struggled to regain their earlier momentum and were unable to find a winner.
Moyes frustrated with missed chances
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Moyes admitted the draw felt like a missed opportunity for his team.
“Disappointed we didn’t take all three points. It’s a home game, an opportunity for us.”
The Everton boss stressed that his side had the chances to extend their lead but failed to make them count.
“We had moments where we should have pressed the button a bit more and got the second goal. We opened ourselves up for counter attacks.”
Moyes also spoke about the lack of composure in attacking areas, highlighting poor decision-making as a key issue.
“The decision-making in the final third: can you make the right pass or cross to get the finish away? We didn’t get that right.”
He added that while his side controlled possession and scored a well-taken goal, they could not produce the decisive second.
“We had a lot of the ball, we scored a good goal from a cross, but couldn’t find a way of making the second goal.”
The result leaves Everton ninth in the Premier League table, with eight points collected from their opening six matches of the campaign.
