For Ohio State fans who have soured on ESPN’s college football coverage because of Paul Finebaum’s long-time hate for the program, they could soon have a good reason to tune into the network a lot more.
Finebaum is one of the most famous analysts in the college football media game. The long-time reporter turned TV personality is exactly what a network like ESPN likes. An opinion expert unafraid to make bold statements about any program. And that often seems to include negative takes on Big Ten powerhouse Ohio State.
He has claimed Ryan Day is not among the best coaches in the country despite winning a championship earlier this year. Has called the program overrated and has been open about his random dislike for the team. It would make sense if it made Buckeyes fans less interested in watching ESPN CFB coverage to avoid the Finebaum hate.
Well, they could have a reason to watch the network a lot more in 2026. In a new interview with Outkick, the 70-year-old admitted he is seriously considering leaving his job at ESPN to make a run for the US Senate next year.
“I ended up talking to someone… who made it clear that there was a desire for me to be involved,” Finebaum said. “And this person… was compelling and compassionate in the approach to me, and I started thinking about this.”
Finebaum would reportedly try to land one of the Senate seats in his native Alabama, which he recently moved back to after previously living in Charlotte, NC. Oddly enough, the college football analyst would be looking to replace another current senator with deep ties to the sport.
Former Auburn and Ole Miss coach Tommy Tuberville was elected to one of the state’s two Senate seats in 2020. He plans to run for Governor of Alabama in the 2026 elections.
