Frenkie de Jong couldn’t hide his disappointment after seeing Barcelona lose 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Ferran Torres opened the scoring for Barcelona, but PSG equalised through Senny Mayulu and then won it late on when Goncalo Ramos hit the winner.

The nature of the late goal means it’s a tough result to take for Barcelona, although De Jong admitted the visitors had been better in the final third of the pitch.

“Very disappointed. If you concede in the last minute and lose, and at home, you’re disappointed,” he told the media after the game.

“I think they were better in the final phase and the second half in general. We started the game better. It was a bit of a one-on-one, but it’s true that they were better than us in the second half.

“It was a good match to see where we stand. We’re at the top of Europe. They won today, but there’s still a long way to go in the Champions League. Although it hurts to lose, it’s not decisive in this Champions League.

“We always want to win, we don’t leave satisfied. There’s still a long way to go. It was a good game, we have to improve and we know it. We’re going to do it.”

The loss is Barcelona’s first reverse of the season and show Hansi Flick his team have improvements to make if they are to succeed in the Champions League this season.
