Peter Schmeichel is asked whether Chelsea can win the league with Robert Sanchez

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has been asked if Chelsea can win the league with Robert Sanchez.

The golden question, right? The big debate. Not really. Most believe that Sanchez, whilst an improved goalkeeper in recent months, is just not good enough and always has a big mistake in him. Many believe that Chelsea cannot win the Premier League with him in goal.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea make contact to sign international centre back in the January window!!

Pundits, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, and Schmeichel were debating this weeks Champions League games on CBS Sports this week and of course, Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Benfica came up for discussion.

Benfica boss Jose Mourinho was praising Estevao Willian after the game for coming on as a second half substitute and looking very good when he did.

Many will now be thinking that the Brazilian youngster needs to be starting for Chelsea now this weekend against Liverpool, and I most certainly agree with that.

But back to goalkeepers, which was the debate on the CBS show last night, and Schmeichel believes Chelsea CAN win the Premier League with Sanchez in goal!

The discussion

Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports

‘Peter, you famously signed for Manchester United and were a big difference to them going on to win the Premier League,’ Carragher said on CBS Sports.

‘Do you think Chelsea can win the league with Robert Sanchez in goal?’

After a brief pause, Schmeichel responded: ‘Erm yes, and better defenders.’

But Carragher immediately interjected, saying: ‘No chance Peter, no chance!’

After the show’s host Kate Abdo said goodbye to Schmeichel, who was at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s win over Benfica, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards told Carragher: ‘You put him on the spot there, didn’t you? He didn’t say it with conviction did he!’
