We get three games today.
The Dodgers beat the Reds to win their best-of-three, 8-4.
Mookie Betts drove in three. Teoscar Hernandez drove in two (after making a costly error on the fly ball in the first inning).
Yoshinobu Yamamoto was great, going 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, two unearned runs (see above), with two walks and nine strikeouts. And their pen did well enough with the big lead, with Emmet Sheehan giving up two earned in the eight (but since Emmet came in from the Klondike, after panning for gold, it wasn’t all that bad).
Today’s Games:
- 3:00 Eastern: Tigers @ Guardians. Jack Flaherty (8-15, 4.64) vs. Slade Cecconi (7-7, 4.30).
Yesterday the Guardians won 6-1. It was close until the bottom of the eighth, when Cleveland scored five runs. Brayan Rocchio and Bo Naylor homered. Troy Melton had a rough time (I wondered why they didn’t take him out sooner, but then Brant Hunter wasn’t much better).
Tanner Bibee went 4.2 innings and then five relievers took them the rest of the way (John isn’t the only manager that likes to cycle through as many relievers as he possibly can).
- 5:00 Easter: Padres @ Cubs. Yu Darvish (5-5, 5.38) vs. Jameson Taillon (11-7, 3.68).
Padres won 3-0 yesterday. Dylan Cease (3.2 innings) Adrian Morejon (2.1), Mason Miller (1.2) and Robert Suarez (1.1) shared the shutout. And Manny Machado hit a two-run homer.
- 8:00 Eastern (why so late?): Red Sox @ Yankees. Connelly Early gets the late start (1-2, 2.33 in 4 games) vs. Cam Schlittler (4-3, 2.96).
The Yankees won 4-3 yesterday in a back-and-forth game. Yankees scored two in the first (Ben Rice homered). The Red Sox got those two runs back in the third (single, walk, Carlos Rodon error on a sac bunt and a Trevor Story two run single).
The Yankees went ahead in the fifth, Justin Slaten walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Aaron Judge singled him home. Red Sox tied it in the six on a Trevor Story home run.
The Yankees got the winning run in the eighth. With two out, Jazz Chisholm walked and scored from first on a single to right. He can fly. The Yankees loaded the bases but didn’t add to the score.
People keep asking me who I want to win this series. I say I want them both to lose. I think that’s the right answer.
