The San Francisco 49ers won't have the services of quarterback Brock Purdy for the Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Purdy aggravated his toe injury in the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and was ruled out for Thursday night's NFC West showdown on Wednesday, which marks the third game he'll miss this season after he sat out Week 2 and 3.
Backup quarterback Mac Jones will take the reins of the Niners' offense for the third time this season, and he'll be backed up by former UFL MVP Adrian Martinez.
With Purdy's status for Week 5 now confirmed, we're looking ahead to Week 6 with the hope that the 49ers signal-caller will be ready to go then.
But that is not guaranteed, according to a new report.
How long is Brock Purdy out?
There is no official timeline for Purdy's return, but there is a chance he doesn't suit up in the Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Purdy's return timeline is uncertain and the fact that it was a short week had nothing to do with the decision to sit him versus the Rams. Breer adds that Purdy is considered week-to-week.
"49ers QB Brock Purdy's timetable for return's uncertain. Aggravated it in-game, kept playing thru Sunday, severity of the turf toe is similar to Week 1—so this being a short week (vs. playing Sunday) didn't make a difference," he reported.
"He's week-to-week, and it's Mac's show for now."
Purdy's toe was an issue for the previous two absences he had this season, so it's safe to assume the Niners might take their time with the former Pro Bowler.
We'll know more next week, when head coach Kyle Shanahan addresses the media and the team releases its first injury report for Week 6 on Wednesday.
